第三部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节 (共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A,B,C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
Life is full of struggle with the fate, all our dreams and hopes. Each one of us has an aim in life at a certain moment: to travel to a favorite place, to meet a famous person, to buy a house and a car, to be married, to have children, to fight a serious disease and so on. Anyway, luck is not always on our side and, even we try to do our best in order to make our dreams come true, we finally don’t manage to do it.
However, the most important thing is to fight, because this clearly suggests that we have tried to achieve what we expect. According to this, we should never take it into consideration when others say we should give up, because nobody can limit our freedom. The most important thing is to fight till the end and show the ones around that we have ambition no matter what they say. They can’t make us give up our hopes, because maybe one day we will realize our dreams.
Moreover, our ideas or our point of view is the one which is the most valuable when we want to do something. Therefore, we should never give up our ideas, even if the persons around tell us the opposite. People who have strong personality don’t let the others control their minds and make decisions for them. They speak up all that they have in mind and never give in to others. It is a means of fighting to the end for their ideals and they don’t give up the things they really believe in.
The most important thing is to think that you don’t have to lose if you follow an aim in life or when you just want to achieve something. The idea is not to build barriers(障碍)in your heart and do everything with love. Persons who fight against the ‘wind’ have always a chance to gain, because they prefer the risk and they gain experience.
All in all, never give up your dreams because dreaming makes us be more ambitious and fight to get more and more in life.
61.What’s the meaning of the underlined words in Para. 4?
A. To struggle despite difficulty.
B. To walk against the wind.
C. To struggle with the help of the wind.
D. To struggle without the help of the wind.
62. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Life is full of difficulty.
B. Never take other’s suggestion.
C. Never stop fight for our dreams.
D. Insist on our own idea in life.
63. All of the following are dreams of a person EXCEPT .
A. to have a comfortable house B. to have lovely children
C. to have a happy family D. to get some disease
64. The writer’s attitude towards life is .
A. impressiveB. pessimisticC. optimisticD. depressive
B
Art museums are places where people can learn about various cultures. The increasingly popular “design museums” that are opening today, however, perform quite a different role. Unlike most art museums, the design museum shows objects that are easily found by the general public. These museums sometimes even place things like fridges and washing machines in the center of the hall.
People have argued that design museums are often made use of as advertisements for new industrial technology. But their role is not simply a matter of sales―it is the honoring of excellently invented products. The difference between the window of a department store and the showcase in a design museum is that the first tries to sell you something, while the second tells you the success of a sale.
One advantage of design museums is that they are places where people feel familiar with the exhibits. Unlike the average art museum visitors, design museum visitors seldom feel frightened or puzzled. This is partly because design museums clearly show how and why mass-produced products work and look as they do, and how design has improved the quality of our lives. Art museum exhibits, on the other hand, would most probably fill visitors with a feeling that there is something beyond their understanding.
In recent years, several new design museums have opened their doors. Each of these museums has tried to satisfy the public’s growing interest in the field with new ideas. London’s Design Museum, for example, shows a collection of mass-produced objects from Zippo lighters to electric typewriters to a group of Italian fish-tins. The choices open to design museums seem far less strict than those to art museums, and visitors may also sense the humorous(幽默) part of our society while walking around such exhibits as interesting and unusually attractive toys collected in our everyday life.
65. Showcases in design museums are different from store windows because they .
A. show more technologically advanced products
B. help increase the sales of products
C. show why the products have sold well
D. attract more people than store windows do
66. The author believes that most design museum visitors .
A. do not admire mass-produced products
B. are puzzled with technological exhibits
C. dislike exhibits in art museums
D. know the exhibits very well
67. The best title for this passage is .
A. The forms of design museums B. The exhibits of design museums
C. The nature of design museums D. The choices open to design museums
C
Have you every thought, “I wish I could take a year off and just travel around the world”? Well, three lucky American teenagers were able to do just that. The teens-two males and one female-got an all-expenses paid, yearlong hike to five continents.
This trip didn’t include any five-star hotels or shopping funs. 18-year-old Jamie Fiel from Keller, Texas, 17-year-old Arsen Ewing from Canyon, California, and 16-year-old Tyler Robinson from Lincoln, Massachusetts, didn’t expect fancy treatment. They signed up for the experience of a lifetime, which included hard work, often uncomfortable accommodations, and encounters with some of nature’s most dangerous animals and environments.
Jamie, Arsen, and Tyler were among hundreds of high school kids nominated by their science teachers to take this trip. Earthwatch Institute sponsored this adventure. Each year, Earthwatch employs thousands of volunteers worldwide to help with scientific research projects.
The group went all around the world to get a close look at the most pressing environmental issues of our time. Their assignments were as varied as their locations, and included measuring and attending pink flamingos in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, and tracking giant sea turtles in Costa Rica.
As they worked with the Earthwatch scientists, Jamie, Arsen, and Tyler began to understand that we are at a critical moment in the life of our planet. Time for change is running out. As the teens went from country to country and witnessed different environmental dangers and challenges, they understood that solutions to important environmental issues start with the power of one person’s actions. They realized that each of them can make a difference.
68. These teenagers went on the journey around the world .

B. to bring the kindness of America to the other parts of the world

A. They had to pay for their journey on their own expense.
B. They often had to move from one hotel to another.
C. They had to take great pains to collect environmental information.
D. They received a warm welcome every time they arrived at a new place.
70. It can be inferred that Earthwatch Institute could be .
A. an international university that takes in students from all over the world
B. a TV station that makes programmes on the beautiful scenery of the earth
C. a travel agency that organizes adventure trips specially for school children
D. an organization that brings science to life for people concerned about earth’s environment
71. What did these teenagers learn from the journey?
A. It was high time that people protected the environment.
B. Long journey was not suitable for school children.
C. It should take the whole world to help the children.
D. Environmental problems can be solved if school children take part.

Zoe Chambers was a successful PR (Public Relations) consultant and life was going well-she had a great job, a beautiful flat and a busy social life in London. Then one evening in June last year, she received a text message telling her she was out of work. “The first two weeks were the most difficult to live through,” she said. “After everything I’d done for the company, they dismissed me by text! I was so angry and I just didn’t feel like looking for another job. I hated everything about the city and my life.”
Then, Zoe received an invitation from an old schoolfriend, Kathy, to come and stay. Kathy and her husband, Huw, had just bought a farm in northwest Wales. Zoe jumped at the chance to spend a weekend away from London, and now, ten months later, she is still on the farm.
“The moment I arrived at Kathy’s farm, I loved it and I knew I wanted to stay,” said Zoe. “Everything about my past life suddenly seemed meaningless.”
Zoe has been working on the farm since October of last year and says she has no regrets. “It’s a hard life, physically very tiring,” she says. “In London I was stressed and often mentally exhausted. But this is a good, healthy tiredness. Here, all I need to put me in a good mood is a hot bath and one of Kathy’s wonderful dinners.”
Zoe says she has never felt bored on the farm. Every day brings a new experience. Kathy has been teaching her how to ride a horse and she has learnt to drive a tractor. Since Christmas, she has been helping with the lambing-watching a lamb being born is unbelievable, she says, “It’s one of the most moving experiences I’ve ever had. I could never go back to city life now.”

A. satisfyingB. toughC. meaninglessD. boring

第二节 (共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从下框的A~F选项中选出能概括每一段主题的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余项。
A.Using a proverb to tell us how to keep healthy
B. Getting up early―one good way to keep healthy
C. The importance of sleeping
D. Introduction to keeping healthy
E. The importance of the blood in our bodies
F. The benefit of exercise
76.
Habit is something we do very often. We do not think when we are doing it. We can have good habits or bad habits. This text gives some advice on how to be healthy. It tells you what to do if you want to be healthy. It also tells you what you must not do. It talks about good habits and bad habits.
77.
Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. This is an old English saying. Have you heard of it before? It means that we must go to bed early and get up early in the morning. If we do, we shall be healthy. We shall also be rich and clever.
78.
Is this true? Perhaps it is. The body must have enough sleep. Children of your age need ten hours’ sleep every night. If you do not go to bed early, you can not have enough sleep. Then you cannot think properly and you cannot do your work properly. You will not be wise and you may not become wealthy.
79.
Some people go to bed late at night and get up late in the morning. This is not good for them. We must sleep at night when it is dark. The dark helps us to sleep properly. When the daylight comes, we must get up. This is the time for exercise. Exercise means doing things with the body. Walking, running, jumping, swimming, playing games are all exercises. If the body is not used, it becomes weak. Exercise keeps it strong.
80.
Exercise helps the blood to move around inside the body. This is very important. Blood takes food to all parts of our bodies. The brains in our heads also need blood. We think with our brains. If we keep our bodies healthy and take exercise, we can think well.

I am glad to hear from you.In your letter you said you are having trouble learning English.Indeed, English spoken in the U.S differs from that spoken in U.K for a variety of reasons. As we know, the United States is a multicultural country, whose language has brought in many different words from other languages. Many of the cultures and words have a deep effect on each other. As a matter of fact, it doesn’t make much difference whether you speak with a British or an American accent. The only purpose is always an effective and efficient communication, and an exact expression of ideas.
In my point of view, you need confidence to improve your spoken English, and you need to actively join in the classroom discussion as well, just to improve through speaking.
I hope you can achieve great success in English.
Yours
