Soeties we have to wonder where all the good news has gone. Turn on the TV or check the news online and it sees to be one 36 after another.
37 when we do get a glipse of 38 news, it attracts our eyes right up. Like just recently, there was a science article online about 39 and how they prepare delicious eals. I went right for it. And if the woan actually is 128 years old, I'd like to see a follow-up article on 46 she did it. Wouldn't it be great if she grew so 4 7 fro eating ice crea, potato chips and dip?
While it's true that sensationalis (追求轰动效应) 48 stories, we need frequent breaks fro all that negative reality. There's another for of reporting that's extreely 49 and it's neither positive nor negative. It’s 50 news. A possible proble is 51 , such as a volcano in Alaska that's expected to erupt. Scientists at the volcano center in Alaska had been onitoring a series of 52 under the volcano. The residents, being warned as a good news report will do, were buying up breathing asks and air filters for their hoes. They're 53 food and water in case they need to hunker (蹲下) down in the house for a few days while volcanic ash falls and settles and even the earthquakes follo
News like that serves a great 54 : giving people tie to prepare for a disaster on the way so they have a chance to do whatever is necessary to 55 theselves and their kids.

When y interest shifted fro space to the sea, I never expected it would cause such confusion aong y friends, yet I can understand their feelings. As I have been writing and talking about space flight for the best part of 20 years, a sudden switch of interest to the depth of the sea does see peculiar. To explain, I'd like to share y reasons behind this unusual change of ind. The first excuse I give is an econoic one. Underwater exploration is so uch cheaper than space flight. The first round-trip ticket to the oon is going to cost at least 10 billion dollars if you include research and developent. By the end of this century, the cost will be down to a few illion. On the other hand, the diving suit and a set of basic tools needed for skin-diving can be bought for 20 dollars. y second arguent is ore philosophical. The ocean, surprisingly enough, has any things in coon with space. In their different ways, both sea and space are equally hostile. If we wish to survive in either for any length of tie, we need to have echanical aids. The diving suit helped the design of the space suit. The feeling and the eotions of a an beneath the sea will be uch like those of a an beyond the atosphere.
56. How did the speaker's frien ds respond to his change of interest?
A. They wanted to follow his exaple.
B. They fully supported his undertaking.
C. They were puzzled by his decision.

C. They are both thought-provoking (激发思考的).
D. They ay both lead to surprising findings.
58. What is the speaker's purpose in giving this talk?
A. To show how siple the echanical aids for diving can be.
B. To provide an excuse for his changeable character.
C. To explore the philosophical issues of space travel.
D. To explain why he took up underwater exploration.

If you want to teach your children how to say sorry, you ust be good at saying it yourself, especially to your own children. But how you say it can be quite tricky.
If you say to your children “I' sorry I got angry with you, but...”What follows that “but”can render the apology ineffective: “I had a bad day” or “your noise was giving e a headache” leaves the person who has been injured feeling that he should be apologizing for his bad behavior in expecting an apology.
Another ethod by which people appear to apologize without actually doing so is to say“I' sorry you're upset”; this suggests that you are soehow at fault for allowing yourself to get upset by what the other person has done.
Then there is the general, all covering apology, which avoids the necessity of identifying a specific: act that was particularly hurtful or insulting, and which the person who is apologizing should proise never to do again. Saying “I' useless as a parent”does not coit a person to any specific iproveent.
These pseudo-apologies (伪道歉) are used by people who believe saying sorry shows weakness. Parents who wish to teach their children to apologize should see it as a sign of strength, and therefore not resort to these pseudo-apologies.
But even when presented with exaples of genuine contrition (悔悟) ,children still need help to becoe aware of the coplexities of saying sorry. A three-year-old ight need help in understanding that other children feel pain just as he does, and that hitting a playate over the head with a heavy toy requires an apology. A six-year-old ight need reinding that spoiling other children's expectations can require an apology. A 12-year-old ight need to be shown that r aiding the biscuit tin without asking perission is acceptable, but that borrowing a parent's clothes without perission is not.
59. If a other adds “but” to an apology,
A. she doesn't feel that she should have apologized
B. she does not realize that the child has been hurt
C. the child ay find the apology easier to accept
D. the child ay feel that he owes her an apology

63. It can be inferred fro the passage that apologizing properly is ______.新 标 第 一网
A. a social issue calling for iediate attention
B. not necessary aong faily ebers
C. a sign of social progressD. not as siple as it sees
□C
Once any years ago, I pulled a faily out of a burning car soewhere in Wyoing. Last week 1 received a telephone call fro a woan who could not stop crying as she told e that one of y stories had saved her son fro coitting suicide. In closing she called e a hero.
That got e thinking about what a hero is. Was I a hero because I pulled a faily fro a burning car? If so, how could I be a hero just because I wrote a story that saved soeone's life?
Today I decided to look up the word “hero” in the dictionary to see exactly what it eant. It read “a person who does soething brave”. As I read on, it also said“person who is good and noble”.
That stateent ipressed e ore than the part about being brave. So I thought about soething very iportant. Say I was walking into the local Wal-art Store and I happened to open, and hold the door for soeone as a courtesy. As they passed e by, I say, “How are you today?”ost of the tie that would be no big deal, but this tie let's say it was for soeone who was deeply depressed and near tile end of the rope. That ay have very well been the only kindness or courtesy shown to the in a very long tie. 新 标第 一网
Having been near “the end of y rope”, after y arriage of twenty years ended, I was in such a condition. I was within hours trying to get up enough courage to end the pain and isery. When I returned hoe, soeone had sent e a card in the ail which told e how uch they would appreciate e as a friend. That wonderful card probably saved y life. That person, without even knowing it , saved a life and becae a hero.
The any stories I kept writing in the following years saved the life of a teenage boy. In turn that akes the person who sent e the card a double hero. I suppose that is why I fight so hard to help the children now living in orphanages (孤儿院). ost children coe out of these institutions with a very hard and bitter attitude against the world. The gifts we send the let the know that they have not been forgotten. Hopefully, ost of the will never hurt anyone because of the kindness shown to the by those of us who cared. If it works, we will also becoe“heroes”.
Gee, who would have ever thought that anyone can becoe a hero, and possibly save a life, just by being kind and courteous to others? The best part of all is that becoing a hero is free to all who wish to wear such an honor.
